The best way to learn the practice of Earth Sciences is in the field.
For this reason, the Department of Geological Sciences offers field trip opportunities for students with a wide range of geological skills and backgrounds. Many of these trips are open to non-majors.
Nearly all geology courses include weekend and day local field projects. For majors the department also teaches a fall semester introduction to field methods (GEOL 306) and an advanced 4-6 week summer field geology course (GEOL 508).
