Oceans 320 - The Oceans
Oceans 320 is a survey of the complex ocean system. The course emphasizes the use of scientific principles to understand the processes that govern the oceans. The course will cover several topics such as the ocean floor features and how they came to be, soft sediments on the floor - how the world's past climate is recorded in bottom mud. Tides: the micro extraterrestrial forces that push the oceans around from top to bottom. The way that distant Pacific storms determine the nature of San Diego's beaches. How life in the sea helps establish and control the earth's atmospheric environment. What the coastal winds have to do with the productivity of the coastal ocean.
