INTERNET ASSIGNMENT ON SUPERFUND SITES

 

 

1.    Go to the National Priorities List Map Site

2.    Select a state from the list below the map

3.    Print out the state map and note the number of NPL sites proposed for listing on the NPL, final listing on the NPL and deleted from the NPL

4.    Select a site by clicking on it

5.    A tabulated listing of sites will be shown

6.    Select your site (do not select a case study already discussed in class) and note the

a.    Site name

b.    Dates of proposed and final listing

c.    Dates of construction completed, partial deletion and deletion (if appropriate)

 

7.    Click on the site name and the Fact Sheet on the Site will appear

8.    Print out the Fact Sheet

9.    Read and review the fact sheet for the following information:

a.    Contaminants of concern

b.    How are humans being exposed?

c.    How is the site being remediated?

d.    How close to being cleaned up or is it just being contained?

10.                       Select one of the contaminants mentioned and find the MCL and what the health effects are from the following EPA site (EPA MCL Site).

11.                       Write a 1 page summary of this information and your opinion on whether the site is safe.  Would you want to life near this site?
