  1. Go to the EPA's site on the TMDL program  http://www.epa.gov/owow/tmdl/overviewfs.html.  Read and print out this material.
  2. Go to EPA's site on the TMDL program http://www.epa.gov/owow/tmdl/
  3. Click on any state of interest to you on the map
  4. Tables of TMDL information should appear. If you have selected an area with no TMDL program, select one that does.  Print out the information for your state.
  5. Select any watershed by clicking on Watershed Name.  Print out the information on this watershed..
  6. Select one pollutant listed to briefly describe health/environmental impacts (use class material and/or EPA site http://www.epa.gov/safewater/mcl.html for information)
  7. Your text writeup (from a word processing program) should address the following questions IN YOUR OWN WORDS.

Why do we need TMDL programs?

What law caused the creation of TMDL programs?

What is a TMDL (in your own words)?

For your state, how many total impaired waters are reported?

What is the most common one?

What watershed has the most impaired waters?

List the top 5 most common impairments for that state?

How many TMDL plans have been approved?

Compare the number of approved plans to the total number of impaired water bodies.

For your watershed, list the waterbody names and types of impairments.

Staple your printouts from the web site to the back of your writeup.
