BOREHOLE LOGGING

An example borehole log is shown below. It consists of several differing parts: the well log header, geologic log, sample log and well design log.

LOG HEADER INFORMATION

Environmental and drilling company information
date of sampling
drill rig and sampling technique
borehole number
borehole diameter
surface elevation from topo map

BOREHOLE LOG

geologic description (soil type, color, size, moisture, density, odor, etc.) from cuttings and core samples
graphic log - must provide a legend
USCS symbol (SP, SW, etc.)
all of the above vs. depth

SAMPLE LOG

note core sample depth interval
density reported in blows/ft for drive hammer when coring
sample number
contaminant information - can include OVA/PID readings of organic vapors

WELL LOG

Graphic showing the design of the well installed including:

total depth
depth interval of screened section
depth interval of filter pack
depth interval of bentonite seal
depth interval of cement grout
