Geology of the National City, Imperial Beach and Otay Mesa Quadrangles, Southern San Diego Metropolitan Area, California
by
Michael P. Kennedy and Siang S. Tan

A preliminary field investigation of the area of this map (Kennedy, 1967) was conducted during the summer and fall of 1966. Detailed maps of faults in the San Diego area (Kennedy and others, 1975) sponsored by the U.S. Geological Survey (Grant 14-48-001-G-74) was used to complete this study. Detailed descriptions of the rock units shown on this map are presented elsewhere (Hanna. 1926; Hertlein and Grant. 1944; Milow and Ennis. 1961: Kennedy and Moore, 1971; Kennedy. 1973a; Kennedy, 1973b; Peterson and Kennedy. 1974; Kennedy, 1975; Kennedy and Peterson. 1975). Previous geologic and tectonic investigations in the area (Cleveland. 1960; Strand. 1962; Weber. 1963: Artim and Pincknev. 1973: Foster. 1973) have been valuable to us. R. H. Chapman and G. W. ~ha&f the California ~ivisionof Mines and Geology made a geophysical field investigation of several faults in the San Diego area (reported in Kennedy and others. 1975); G. W. Moore of the U.S. Geological Survey participated in a shipboard geophysical investigation of faults in San Diego Bay and immediate offshore bight (reported in ,Moore and Kennedy. 1975).
